Grass Knuckles - Living Jewelry

When it comes to living things, are you more into cultivating them, or popping them in the jaw? Icelandic industrial designer Hafsteinn Juliusson's live grass knuckles are brilliantly executed wearable flora for the half of you who answered the former, and may serve as the massive chill pill necessary to keep the other half of you from doing the latter. Juliusson deems his jewelry a "redefinition of modern values," and whether or not you agree, there is no doubt the living knuckle duster is a handcrafted conversation piece you have only a fleeting opportunity to add to your collection before Fiddy and Martha Stewart co-op it.

The Growing Jewelry line also includes single and double finger rings, as well as two different pendants. All pieces are handcrafted from silver and mossy turf, and will stay green for 8 to 12 months with proper care. Spray misting suffices for watering, and should be done only once every 5 weeks. Storing the jewelry in a freezer while not in use also helps to preserve it. The high price tag on the grass knuckles is due to their being custom made upon order. Other pieces in the collection, while not likely to follow Jason Wu and Missoni to Target anytime soon, are much more affordable at around $195.
