Brick Oven Grill Converter

Posted: December 15, 2012

I must spend about $5,000 per year on pizza. Usually between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 a.m. How cost effective (and fun for my neighbors) it would be if instead of Internet ordering from Dominoes and watching Ollie add toppings and put my pizza in to pizzafy, I could fire up my BBQ and make a cheesy-saucy-doughy disk of heaven in my very own brick oven. BakerStone's Brick Oven Box converts standard gas grills into brick ovens, deck pizza ovens, or convection ovens. That last bit means it can bake chocolate chip cookies too. Dude.

The patent-pending Brick Oven Box comprises s refractory baking chamber with an external baffle to capture and redirect escaping heat--basically the Kanye West version of a pizza stone. Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. When fitted between the grate and lid of a grill (takes less than 30 seconds), the insert heats to 500 F to 700 F in 15 to 20 minutes, and 700 F to 900 F in 25 to 30 minutes, which allows for the culinary abracadabra of standard crusted pizza in 3 to 6 minutes, and Neapolitan style pizza in around 90 seconds.

And about those cookies. Check out the above videos for quick rundowns on the Brick Oven Box's convection and searing capabilities, which produce delectable baked goods in about 10 minutes, as well as steakhouse-quality steaks.

The Brick Oven Box runs as a Kickstarter project through December 24, 2012. $99 pledges receive one maestro of the pizza, due for delivery just in time for grilling season in April 2013. At the $199 funding level, BakerStone will toss in a Pizza Pro Starter kit as well. The kit includes a pizza peel, a metal pizza turner, and a non-contact thermometer for checking Brick Oven Box temperatures.

November 2013 Update: While BakerStone's Brick Oven Box exceeded its crowdfunding goal, it does not yet appear to be available for direct purchase. Feel free to follow progress, and direct any inquiries directly to BakerStone through their company website--follow the link below.
