I like the idea of Homesick Candles: scents crafted to remind you of home when you set a match to them. The smell of the air there. The smells of iconic seasons, places, or foods. Smells that embody the city, state, or country you came from. Or the place you love to go. Or where your loved ones live. Sounds so sentimental. So nice.
So...what does the New York City candle smell like? Or like, I love me some New Orleans. It's one of my favorite vacations, and I go every year. But NOLA usually smells like, uh, spilled liquor and garbage heated to 89 degrees with 100% humidity. And while Homesick Candles says their New York City canister adds wafts of "spring days in Central Park, fine department stores, and concrete" to your living room, I feel like New Yorkers would say that's far from their city's whole ball of wax.
But I get it. When we're homesick for a place, we remember only the good things, and Homesick Candles seek to pour some of those good things into a package primed for triggering our memories and nostalgia through scent. Homesick Candles are made of soy wax, and all hand-poured in small batches. They have a 60- to 80-hour burn time.
