Oh boy, the Penduloz is a real-life, gravity-powered machine for drawing my mama's favorite Windows screensaver! Mystify, I believe it was called, and boy did it ever do that to her. Birthday gift for Mama, check.

You dudes, like this dude, might be surprised to learn that this type of geometric artwork, and even drawing machines like the Penduloz itself, actually predate the entire Windows operating system. By a lot. The machines are called harmonographs, and according to Penduloz designer, RD1studio, artists first began experimenting with them in the mid-1800s. The Lissajous curves produced by a harmonograph have been mesmerizing those who witness their creation for almost 200 years!

RD1studio has reimagined the Penduloz to suit a more modern aesthetic, and designed an art-making harmonograph that is a piece of art itself. Even better, it requires no electricity, no batteries, and no manual manipulation, except perhaps a small push. Physics and gravity take care of the rest.

RD1studio are offering both wall-mounted and freestanding Penduloz drawing machines to backers here on Kickstarter through September 27, 2021.
