I. LOVE. BUTTONS. And one of the 17 reasons I refuse to convert from a flip to a smartphone is the latter's infuriating lack thereof. A touchscreen? Really? Maybe if my fingers had stopped growing at the age of 6, but they didn't. I am a MAN and I have MAN HANDS and man hands don't want no stinkin' touchscreen! Man hands think Pressy is pretty sweet though.

Granted, Pressy does not eliminate the need to use your smartphone's touchscreen. It's an instant-action button that inserts into Android headphone jacks and allows users to access a few of their phone's functions with simple clicks. Creators Nimrod Back (yeah I'm scratching my head on that one too) use the Android flashlight as an example. Say it's 3 a.m. and you've lost your keys in the pitch black of a bedroom you're not so sure you want to be in when the pitch black is gone. Normally, turning on your phone's flashlight requires at least 5 to 7 different steps (wake screen, unlock phone, exit running app, find needed app....) and upwards of that many seconds. And time is of the essence here! What if she's a light sleeper?

With Pressy and its free app, users can link some of their phone's functions, such as the flashlight, to a 4mm button positioned right at the top of the device, so that a single (or double, or morse code, depending on your preferences) click leads to instant action.

Pressy will be programmed with 3 pre-set Android Actions: 1 short click to toggle the flashlight; 1 long click to toggle the phone into/out of silent mode; and a double-click to take a photo. However, once those so inclined familiarize themselves with the accessory, they can customize Pressy with dozens of clicking patterns to trigger different Actions. Some of Nimrod Back's ideas:

  • Take instant photos/videos. With the screen off and without the flash. You won't even have to look at your phone to start the process. How surreptitious of you.
  • Start a voice recording.
  • Check in to social networks.
  • Record a phone call.
  • Send your GPS information in case of an emergency.
  • Instantly close all running apps.

Pressy began its Kickstarter campaign on August 28, 2013, seeking $40,000 in funding. At printing they had reached well over $200,000. Pledge for yours by October 14, 2013 to get a click of the action.
