Aside from the ExtremeMist name reading like "extremist" when I first look at it, the Personal Cooling System would be a welcome addition to my summer activities. (Extremists, though, political, religious, social media, microbrew, and otherwise, please stay away.)

Developed for hiking, running, cycling, ATV-ing, and sitting in a beach chair under an umbrella, the ExtremeMist Personal Cooling System (PCS) comes in complete vest / pack and retrofit-ready styles. You can use it in tandem with a hydration backpack or clip the system to your larger outdoor gear to create a continuous fine mist that drops over you like a cooling cloud. An ExtremeMist PCS can reduce air temperatures up to 30 degrees F.

While similar to other evaporative air coolers in concept, the ExtremeMist carries the benefits of portability and easy integration into hydration backpacks, which many people who take part in outdoor activities in the heat already own, or could use anyway. The PCS component measures 7.5" x 3.5" x 1.5" and weighs 16 ounces, including its rechargeable li-ion battery pack.

The ExtremeMist uses a high-pressure pump with different speed settings to create its cloud of cool. You can control it via wireless remote. On low speed the PCS consumes about 1.8 to 2.8 cups of water per hour of continuous use. The battery has about 12 hours of juice per full charge.
