We've seen rings lined with whiskey barrels, dinosaur bone, and escape tools. But never before has there been one lined with Laser Luminance. Lumus Rings are titanium or carbon fiber outer bands with inner loops of "a brand new, unnamed technology" creator Jon Parker calls Laser Luminance.
The technology stems from NASA's MoonGlow witchcraft, which has enjoyed many glow-in-the-dark applications for over a decade. (Even rings, if you remember the Black Badger pieces we featured back in 2012.) Parker, an eager and enterprising 20-year-old college student, says he paid many visits to NASA's Florida offices, ultimately finagling collaborations with a chemical engineer from the national administration, plus two engineers from SpaceX, to develop the Laser Luminance material.
Lumus Rings are available on Kickstarter in Silver or Black Titanium, or Carbon Fiber, and your choice of Blue, Purple, Orange, Green, or Red Laser Luminance interior bands. The bands do require "charging" via sun or other UV light to restore their glow when it fades. Or, for an additional $30, Parker will include another of his creations, the Flash-Laser, in ring backer packages to achieve an even brighter, visible-in-daylight glow.
The Lumus Ring project runs through March 7, 2016.
