When I mentioned Bose Sleepbuds to my wife, she asked if they funneled their trademark noise cancelling technology into plugs I could shove up my nose to silence my dragon-like snoring at night. Uh, no, my darling She-Ra: Princess of Power. Bose Sleepbuds do contain noise-masking powers, but they do it on the way in, not the way out. And by adding sound rather than taking it away.

For the person stuck listening to and not sleeping because of dragon-like snoring - or street noise, or a party next door, or construction inexplicably starting at 5 a.m. - Bose Sleepbuds mask unwanted noise by replacing it with pleasing sounds. Sounds Bose says have been combined and calibrated to a mix of frequencies that are just right for overtaking the bothersome noise in your inner ear, and making your brain unable to detect any disruption.

Bose Sleepbuds come preloaded with 10 "soothing sounds that have been optimally tuned to drown out unwanted noise." Choices include rolling waves, rustling leaves, and a crackling campfire. You control their volume, and can set a time for the sounds to shut off. The Sleepbuds also have built-in alarm functions so you don't have to replace your standard buzzer with a Skull bed-shaker.

The Sleepbuds themselves have been designed to nestle into your ear without gouging you, and to stay in place all night long, even if you're a side sleeper. Reviews of how effective they are at accomplishing both of those tasks are mixed. The Bose rechargeable battery lasts for up to 16 hours of use per charge.
